Lenovo ThinkPad X100e: Not a Netbook. It Is Truly a Notebook

Lenovo ThinkPad X100e
Together with the ThinkPad Edge, Lenovo has previewed other new notebook. The Lenovo ThinkPad X100e. Something that can grab attention? The dimensions! It is typically smaller than the ThinkPad X series. The screen is 11.6", slightly smaller than the X200’s 12" display. This is an ultra portable series notebook, not even a netbook.

Although the ThinkPad X100e only equipped with 11.6” display, but the 1366x768 display resolution is quite satisfying. The memory can be upgraded up to 4GB. The hard drive is also upgradeable to 320BG and 500GB. The standard Lenovo ThinkPad X100e is completed with 2GB RAM, and 250GB hard drive.
You’ll find ThinkPad X100e in black, red, and white. It uses 6-cell battery that is claimed to stand for about 5 hours of computing. It comes with Windows 7 pre-installed. If you are looking for Intel Inside logo, then you’ll be sorry, for the X100e uses Neo AMD Athlon processor.
In addition, the modem module is mounted in the unit, allowing users to surf the Internet while the SIM card is inside, when there is no possible wifi connection arround. The modem module itself is removable. There will be be two versions, with the built in modem installed and without the modem. Unfortunately, the location of the SIM card slot is not easy to reach. It is put behind the cover. To install the SIM card, we have to remove seven screws first.
But just like the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge, X100e has three USB ports, one of them is the USB port power-on, the USB port that can be used to charge USB devices like iPods as the notebook is off. Just like ThinkPad Edge, X100e does not have internal optical drive.
In US, this ultra portable notebook is sold at a low price, only $ 499. In Thailand, this approximately 1.5 kg with 6-cell battery notebook was sold 1000 units on its releasing day. With its attractive price, it can sweep the netbook market easily. Well, we’ll see.

ATI Radeon 5670 Launched!!!

ATI Radeon 5670

ATI has just launched ATI Radeon 5670. It is using the same 40nm process with the 5700 series. The launch itself is a part of ATI's strategy to let market be enthusiasted with this new graphics card. Appropriate algorithms, following the 5670 and 5700 series is aimed directly at the mainstream market. According to AMD, about two-thirds of PC gamers use a graphics card priced under $ 100 and display resolution also under 1920x1200.

In addition to full support Directx11, 5670 include the ATI Stream to boost tasks such as transcoding and Flash hardware acceleration. 5670 also supports multi-monitor technology Eyefinity ATI. It is also capable of supporting up to three displays and an opportunity for third parties to support the fourth display if they use two slot design. With a total computing power 620G flops, 5670 has a core clock speed of 775MHz and 512MB or 1GB memory is GDDR5 128bit at 1000MHz with 4Gbps data rate and the memory bandwidth reaches 64GBps.

5670 will need around 14 watts when it is idle and about 61W when it is working. This means the 5670 does not require additional power connector. However, third-party version that can be over clocked may need it.

What about the price sensitive market? ATI will have similar model next month, the 5500 and 5450. These cards are designed for basic PC users or home theater PCs. This is because the 5450 can be cooled passively, which also reduces the noise level.

The cards will also support up to three displays using an HDMI 1.3a or Eyefinity, CrossFire software and Hybrid CrossFire for the 5450.
Because the target circles is under $ 100, you can get ATI 5670 512MB for $ 99. But the 1GB version will be about $ 120.

Nokia N97, A Cute Touch Screen Gadget

N97 Mini, A Cute Touch Screen Gadget

Interested with Nokia N97 but you don’t like with the size that’s too big for your hand? or simply because it’s too expensive? If your answer to those questions are yes, then Nokia N97 Mini will be the right choice for you.

After the first debut of N97 months ago, Nokia has introduced N97 Mini. As what you can see on its name, Nokia N97 Mini is a mini version of N97. Although it is the ‘mini’ version you still get the magnificent touch screen and the qwerty keyboard. It is truly become an answer for those who think that N97 is too big and expensive.

Nokia N97 has bigger dimension. 117x55,3x15,9 mm. While the Nokia N97 Mini only 113x55,3x14,2 mm. Because of a smaller dimension, N97 Mini automatically has smaller screen, 3,2 inch. N97 has 3,5 inch screen.

You’ll find navigational keypad on the right side, with the same size keypad like other letter keypad. It will a little bit difficult for those who have big thumb to use it.

You’ll also have to let go that 32 GB storage on N97, for N97 Mini will only give you 8 GB internal storage. But don’t worry, you are still able to add up to 24 GB microSD external memory.

Other features of N97 are available on its Mini version. Like 5 MP camera using Carl Zeiss lens, wifi connection for internet access, and GPS satellite navigation.

Quite cute, right?

Samsung Introduces Four Atom N450 Netbooks

Samsung Atom N450 Netbooks Early this year, Atom N450 netbooks start to appear. Not to be outdone by Acer, Samsung also announced the presence of these netbooks. Unmitigated, Samsung and even introduced four models at once: N210, N220, N150 and NB30. All four were equipped with anti-glare screen 10.1 ".

The fourth model is distinguished by its battery endurance. N210 and N220 are the most durable, the battery life when connected to the Internet is claimed to reach 12 hours. The next number is 11 hours, which carried by NB30. While the N150 can last for 8.5 hours. Longer battery life is possible because Samsung succeeded in reducing the absorption display through the application of LED technology, which is supported by Enhanced Battery Life.

N150 appears somewhat different from the others. This is because of the integrated hinges. NB30 is quite special. Understandably, its hard drive has shock sensor features. So the hard drive will be parked when it is fallen or so. It is also completed with a waterproof pencil that can protect from the spill of  50cc of water (but water must be dried within 10 seconds, a similar spill-resistant technology available on Lenovo notebooks).

Another attraction is located on the casing netbook mentioned anti-scratch. Does this mean the end of the lap-wiping fingerprints on netbook? I hope so. Then how much the four latest Samsung netbook this? Samsung has not announced it. Schedule presence was certainly not yet available. However, Atom N450 netbooks promised it appeared in January this in several Asian countries.

Acer Aspire One AO532h: $299!!! Patient Enough To Wait?

Acer AO532H $299

Acer with its Aspire One is now trying to be the best selling netbook in 2010 (again). As they successfully put Aspire One as the best selling netbook in 2008. Acer’s first move is the Acer Aspire One AO532H. Powered with the new Intel Atom N450 processor, 10 hours battery life (hopefully…), and here is the best part of it: you can bring it home for  $299. It seems like other producers like HP, Toshiba, Lenovo, and Samsung have to find other way to beat it.

What will you get for this $299 netbook?

The Acer Aspire One AO532H is powered with Intel Atom N450, that now become a new standard for netbooks, replacing the N270 and N280. It will also come with 6-cell batteries that are boasted to give you 10 hours computing. You will also get Acer’s FineTip keyboard that hopefully large enough not to make your fingers cramping while typing a rather lot documents. For the OS, you’ll get Windows 7 (unfortunately it is only a Starter Edition), some said that this new Microsoft OS is not so great for netbook baterry life. But Intel’s Pine Trail CPUs are more energy-efficient, and help to give back some of the battery life Windows 7 steals. Acer also claims that the 10.1-inch LED-backlit TFT LCD saves 22.2 percent power compared with other netbook displays. Other specs are quite standard like other netbooks on the market: a b/g/-draft-n wireless card, 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, and standard spread of ports.

Except the new Intel N450 processor, you will not get anything new from this new Acer Aspire One AO532H compared to other netbooks, but the price that only $299 will attract people to get it as it is available on the market.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 is actually the replacement for the Lumix DMC-LX2. That’s why the LX3 has an almost identical body design, same to better performance, but improved photo quality. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 brings its compact and elegant design, and powered by enthusiast-friendly feature set. With its compact to be qualified as the camera that can be counted on when you need something better than a regular DSLR.

The compactness of Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 can be seen from its dimensions. It has 4.3 inches wide by 2.5 inches height by 2 inches deep. And it is only weight 9.1 ounces. It can be comfortably in your jacket pocket. But you should be careful when handling it. There is only a slightly pronounced grip up front and a small, bumpy thumb rest on the back. A firmer grip is required to make it more safe to hold it.

The lack of an optical viewfinder makes Panasonic DMC-LX3 retains its slim design. Instead, it uses an external model, the DMW-VF1, which is quite pricey.

The Controls and Buttons,
The rest of the controls sit adjacent to the bright, saturated wide-aspect 3-inch LCD on the camera back. Though small, the buttons, switches, and joystick are easy to feel and manipulate unless you have really big fingers. Panasonic added an AF/AE lock button over the LX2, but otherwise the layout (though not the feel) is identical. In addition, there's a capture/playback switch, Quick Menu button/joystick, display, and burst shooting buttons. The joystick is impressive, but doesn’t work very well as a button; it requires multiple presses to register and pull up the menu. The four-button navigation pad that surrounds the Menu button has dedicated buttons for the self-timer, flash, and exposure compensation. The fourth button is a user-programmable function button, which you can set to quick review, film mode, ISO sensitivity, white balance, metering, AF mode, or intelligent exposure. Film mode provides a variety of preset combinations of contrast, sharpness, saturation, and noise reduction settings, and you can save two custom sets. There's also a Multi Film mode, which saves three variations of a single photo with the three user-selected film settings.

The Capabilities,
Some other notable capabilities of the LX3 include Pre AF, which locks focus when it senses the camera's at its steadiest, and selectable grouped AF points. The camera offers all the essentials, including optical image stabilization, as well.

The Bad,
Like other products in this class, Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 is not an exception. It works slowly, even landscapes can change if it takes long enough. It wakes up and shoots in just under 2 seconds, which is reasonable. But 0.6 second to focus and shoot under optimal conditions is less so, and 1.1 seconds for low-contrast scenes is a bit too high for the price. Its 1.9 seconds shot-to-shot performance is good, but most snapshot cameras can do better. With flash it slows to about 2.5 seconds between shots, which is typical, if not terrific. For burst shooting it manages about 1.9fps.

Is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 good enough to buy? That would be your personal decision.
